چکیده

Please cite this article in press as: Y. A. S ekercio (2009), doi:10.1016/j.comnet.2009.05.001 We present a comprehensive survey of proposed Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms in the Media Access Control (MAC) sublayer of WiMAX based wireless networks. QoS support in WiMAX is a fundamental design requirement, and is considerably more difficult than in wired networks, mainly because of the variable and unpredictable characteristics of wireless links. We discuss various QoS architectures, signaling mechanisms and admission control techniques proposed in the WiMAX research literature, summarizing the operation of each, and providing comparative evaluations that include advantages and limitations. 2009 Elsevier B.V. A method to increasing the Quality of Service (QoS) in Wireless body area networks by providing a MAC layer Protocol based of Internet of Things

With the development of technology, the use of wireless telecommunication networks for the various affairs is essential. These networks are one of the safest and most widely used networks, for instance, in medical care and remote patient monitoring. What matters is the quality of service in these networks. The purpose of this paper is to increase packet transduction in a wireless body area netw...

Scheduling in IEEE 802.16e Mobile WiMAX Networks: Key Issues and a Survey

Interest in broadband wireless access (BWA) has been growing due to increased user mobility and the need for data access at all times. IEEE 802.16e based WiMAX networks promise the best available quality of experience for mobile data service users. Unlike wireless LANs, WiMAX networks incorporate several quality of service (QoS) mechanisms at the Media Access Control (MAC) level for guaranteed ...

Resource Allocation in IEEE 802.16 Mobile WiMAX

In this chapter, we focus on the management of resource allocation and scheduling in IEEE 802.16e based mobile WiMAX networks. Since mobile WiMAX uses orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), the scheduling issues can apply for other OFDMA-based networks as well. Unlike wireless LANs, WiMAX networks incorporate several Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms at the media access contro...

A Survey of Mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16m Standard

IEEE 802.16m amends the IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN-OFDMA specification to provide an advanced air interface for operation in licenced bands. It will meet the cellular layer requirements of IMT-Advanced next generation mobile networks. It will be designed to provide significantly improved performance compared to other high rate broadband cellular network systems. For the next generation mobile net...

Ubiquitous fair bandwidth allocation for multimedia traffic on a WiMAX mesh network with multi-channels

The WiMAX, also known as IEEE 802.16, provides a mechanism for deploying high-speed wireless mesh network, (an ubiquitous wireless network) in metropolitan areas. WiMAX technology can be used as “last mile ubiquitous” broadband connections to deliver streaming audio or video to clients. Thus, Quality of Service (QoS) is very important for WiMAX networks. Providing QoS in multi-hop WiMAX network...
